Job summary
This post will join the current compliment of 5 Consultants and 1 Associate Specialist responsible for the provision of secondary and some tertiary cardiac services. The post is based at the Princess of Wales Hospital (POWH), but some services are also provided at Neath Port Talbot Hospital (NPTH) and at Maesteg Community Hospital (MCH).
The Cardiologists are supported by 2 Specialty Registrars, 1 Senior Clinical Fellow, 1 Internal Medicine Trainee, 1 Foundation Trainee level 2 and 1 Foundation Trainee level 1. There are also 2 BHF Clinical Nurse Specialists, 2 Cardiac Rehabilitation Clinical Nurse Specialists and 3 Cardiac Advanced Nurse Practitioners.
The post holder will have access to the secretarial and administration teams and will have use of office facilities including a computer with internet access. The post holder will be provided with login details to NHS digital systems through the National Active Directory (NADEX). This includes an email account. It is expected that this will be reviewed regularly. We have public WiFi in most of our sites and you are encouraged to bring your own smartphone or tablet for mobile working.
This post will contribute to this successful dynamic team-based approach and enable further development to meet the increasing and changing demand.
Main duties of the job
THIS POST IS FIXED TERM FOR UPTO 6 MONTHS DUE TO MEET THE NEEDS OF THE SERVICE
The Consultant Cardiologists provide 5 day ward rounds on the Cardiology ward providing safe, uniform, evidence-based care to patients. The consultant team also provides a 7 day In Reach service to support the separate Medical on Call Team and Acute Care Physicians and provides specialist opinions and advice to non-cardiac teams. They also undertake outpatient clinics, diagnostic coronary angiography, bradycardia pacing, complex device implants, TTE, TOE, stress echo, and complex imaging including cardiac CT and MRI. The Cardiac Laboratory in Bridgend lies within 30 minutes road travel time of both regional Cardiac Centres in Wales - University Hospital Wales, Cardiff and Moriston Hospital, Swansea.
The post holder will help to ensure that the Directorate complies with Welsh Government service targets e.g. ED Waiting Times, RTT, inpatient length of stay and outpatient new to follow up ratios as well as improving discharge planning.
