Job summary

Utilise and ensure efficiency of appointment system and monitor flow of patients into consulting and treatment rooms. 

Ensure that patients without appointments but who need 'urgent consultation' are seen in a logical and non-disruptive manner. 

Explain practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and those seeking temporary cover, ensuring that procedures are completed. 

Respond to all queries and request for assistance from patients and other visitors. 

Enter requests for house calls on to computer system, including all relevant information and where necessary refer to Duty Doctor. 

Ensure reception and waiting areas are kept neat and tidy. 

Advise patients of appropriate charges for private services, accepting payments and issuing receipts for same.

Main duties of the job

Part time receptionist required for busy GP practice, working as part of a small team you will be answering the telephone and dealing with patients' face to face, answering queries, making appointments etc. The candidate must have good communication skills, be empathetic and possess a reasonable level of computer literacy. The number of hours is 30 per week, working one afternoon and three full days, flexibility to cover holidays and sickness is essential. Experience would be preferable but not essential as full training will be provided to the right applicant. English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply for this post.
