Job summary

Consultant in Pain Management - 2 posts available (5 sessions per week)

To work collaboratively with consultant colleagues to deliver a first-class medical service within the Persistent Pain Service. The post holder will provide pain interventions for eligible patients and contribute to the development of sub-specialty interests across designated hospitals and community settings, with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of illness.

Main duties of the job

  • Lead the development of a comprehensive pain management service across the Health Board, based at Glangwili General Hospital.
  • Deliver a robust weekday service, ensuring high standards of patient care.
  • Provide outpatient clinics in both District General Hospital (DGH) and community settings.
  • Undertake theatre-based pain interventions as clinically appropriate.
  • Offer effective leadership and support to multidisciplinary team members.
  • Promote and develop teaching, training, and research within the organisation.

Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential

  • Full registration and a License to Practice with the General Medical Council.
  • On the GMC Specialist Register (including via Portfolio Pathway (CESR)/European Community Rights) or will have CCT due within six months of interview date.
  • Valid Certified Advanced Life Support.
  • Where a sub-specialty interest is required sub-specialty training should be to a level appropriate for UK consultant sub-specialist practice - fellowship or equivalent level experience.

  • Additional Higher qualification(s).

Clinical Experience

  • Broad based experience within the specialty area.
  • Able to demonstrate core competencies and clinical skills relevant to the post.
