Job summary

This career enhancing opportunity has arisen for a Senior Nurse who wishes to further progress their nursing career and play a key role in delivering safe quality care to our patients and developing services in line with the modernisation agenda for our older adult mental health services.

The role of the Senior Nurse is fundamental to managing ward teams to ensure patients receive safe, high-quality mental health care and a co-produced and positive patient experience which is responsive to the needs of patients, families, and their carers.

This role provides visible clinical knowledge, expertise and leadership for nurses and other health professionals providing care in an inpatient setting whilst working collaboratively with community mental health services and wider partners to ensure safe, high quality and effective delivery of care across the older adult acute mental health care pathway.

The role of the Senior Nurse is pivotal in delivering the vision of the Health Board, service users and carers onto our wards.

Main duties of the job

Provide leadership and direction to all registered and unregistered nurses working in the delivery of adult acute mental health inpatient wards.

Direct, lead and motivate nursing staff to ensure the highest standards of professionalism, efficiency and effectiveness in service delivery.

Ensure the Health Board's aims and objectives and associated targets and strategies are clearly communicated to all relevant staff so that effective contributions to implementation of operational plans can be made.

Direct, lead and motivate nursing and other staff to maintain effective patient flow through acute inpatient services (mental health).

Direct, lead and motivate nursing and other staff working within the teams managed to ensure a high standard of professionalism, efficiency and effectiveness in service delivery, ensuring that activity is aligned to Health Board plans and strategies.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.

Essential

  • Registered Nurse Level 1 and current NMC Registration.
  • MSc in Nursing or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrate an excellent knowledge of Mental Health Legislation and its application in practice.
  • Relevant post graduate courses and/or experience within specialties involved with the position.
  • Significant knowledge of the strategic drivers for change within Mental Health Services.
  • Evidence of continuous management development.
  • Experience of practice development
  • Significant knowledge of evidence-based practice and psychological interventions used within Adult Mental Health.
  • Must have a recognised management qualification or equivalent demonstrable experience.
  • Must have knowledge of quality improvement methodologies.
  • Must have knowledge and understanding of current policy and issues in professional practice, compliance, standards and the wider NHS.

  • The ability to analyse data effectively and manage performance target systems
  • Is able to demonstrate a working knowledge of implementing change and a robust clinical governance/ assurance system
