Job summary

We are looking to appoint a hard working and enthusiastic F1 level doctor, to join the General Surgery team in the Carmarthenshire locality. The post is based at Glangwili General Hospital in Carmarthen, but there is an expectation to provide regular cover at Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli. Other working locations including off site working may be necessary and will form part of your agreed job plan. This will be subject to change as the Health Board's clinical requirements are amended to meet the needs of the service/patients.

The successful candidates will participate in providing, a service for General Surgery to the hospital and community so designated with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness with your Consultant.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be expected to support the surgical registrars in assisting and managing patients being admitted through both emergency and elective pathways, monitoring and assessing patients during their pre and post operative hospital stay.

The candidate will also be able to assist in both the main theatre and day care unit. This will provide the fellow with a good exposure to a range of surgical proceduresThere will be an expectation to participate in the on-call rota at Glangwili Hospital, covering emergency surgical admissions to A&E and providing care to surgical inpatients within the hospital.

The successful candidate will also be expected to support the elective pathway at Prince Philip Hospital, Llanelli.

The successful candidate will form part of a clinical team working closely with other members in the specialty.

There is also an expectation to participate in regular audits and research, to promote evidence-based clinical practice.
