Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Bank Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join our Acute Occupational Therapy Team in Pembrokeshire.

You will be based with our acute team at Withybush Hospital, Haverfordwest who are a very supportive and friendly team, supporting a home first approach which is focused on the needs of the individual and aims to provide a timely discharge from hospital. Working as part of a wider occupational therapy team, you will work closely with colleagues from intermediate care and community services.

This team covers several wards working together to support rehabilitation and discharge, as well as working closely with the wider multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

Operate as an autonomous practitioner, with a varied and often complex caseload, using specialist knowledge of occupational therapy and the functional impact of health conditions to appropriately select, plan, modify, carry out and evaluate assessments and interventions, adapting practice based on client's circumstances and presentation.

Work as part of a team, which may be multi professional and/or multi-agency, to deliver a prudent, coordinated and person-focussed service.

Formulate clinical decisions and recommendations, and develops person centred plans, based on evidence from assessment process, specialist knowledge of occupational therapy and relevant evidence based clinical guidance and pathways.

Work independently or alongside other members of the team, where relevant, to plan, organise and deliver therapeutic interventions with individuals or groups, across hospital and home.

Advises/educates and demonstrates specific techniques/strategies to the individual and their families/carers, if relevant, to support the ongoing management of the individual's recovery.

Delegate clinical work to others within the team i.e. Support Workers and students, following relevant policies/guidelines.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

The post holder will provide leadership and direction for inpatient OT team, autonomously prioritise case load and delegate to junior staff. Complete standardised assessment of functioning. Provide detailed written reports of persons functioning to MDT. Develop and plan individualised occupational based therapeutic intervention plans. Complete detailed discharge plans. Support patients to access community as part of therapeutic intervention. Deliver group based interventions on the ward such as recovery through activities. Mentor the development of OT support workers. Participate in CPD activities. Ensure that best practice guidelines are followed.

The post holder will have current HCPC registration. They will be expected to travel within Pembrokeshire and at times with the possibility of the wider HDUHB area. There are opportunity for pool cars and mileage expenses.

Willingness to work flexibly when activity and demand levels result in necessary changes which may include 7 day working.
