Job summary
We have an opportunity for an enthusiastic and adaptable dentist to join our highly motivated, professional and supportive dental team.
Working from the Community Clinics within Carmarthenshire the post holder will provide comprehensive dental treatment and preventive care for priority groups of patients, including children and adults with additional special care needs, who receive their continuing dental care in the Community Dental Service. Treatment may involve the use of sedation (IHS/IVS), supporting treatment provision under general anaesthesia and domiciliary care. You will also provide urgent dental treatment for residents in the local area who do not have access to NHS dental care.
You will be supported by an experienced team of Dental Nurses, Therapists & Dentists. You will have access to inhouse training and take part in regular audits ensuring that high quality care is provided in a sustainable manner.

As an interim this post will work across the community dental clinics in Carmarthenshire or the Hafen Derwen site before the service moves to the Carmarthen Hwb in 2025.
Depending on the needs of the service, the post holder may be required to support other community dental clinics across the Health Board area.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide a range of primary dental care services for patients in accordance with approved Health Board plans and policies. This will include the provision of dental treatment and preventive care for patients who fall within the remit of the Community Dental Service (as set out by Welsh Government) and also including patients requiring urgent dental care who do not have access to General Dental Services.
Integral to the responsibilities of the post are the following requirements:
- Provision of comprehensive, high quality dental services for Community Dental Service patients. Patients who fall within the remit of the Community Dental Service include children and adults with special care needs. These additional needs may include anxiety/phobia relating to dental care, behaviour management problems, complex medical issues, learning disabilities, physical disabilities, homelessness etc.
- Support of initiatives to improve and modernise the existing dental services.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with patients, carers, clinical team members, peers and other health professionals.
Dentists wishing to apply for this post must be GDC registered and have an active NHS Performer Number.
Consideration will also be given to Dentists completing formal foundation training.
