Interviews to be held on

Main duties of the job

Working in the S-CAMHS Primary Mental Health teams combines two key functions: firstly, that of providing psychologically informed consultation, training and support to education professionals in schools as part of the Schools in-Reach programme; and secondly, providing assessments and interventions to children and adolescents with mild to moderate mental health difficulties.

The job is made up of two main aspects:

  • Direct work with children, young people and families in our clinics and community settings
  • Supporting school staff in meeting the mental health and wellbeing needs of the pupils in their care.

In the direct work with children, young people and families, the postholder will screen referrals into the service, assess mental health needs, provide advice and information about other sources of support and provide brief interventions to prevent mental health difficulties starting or getting worse. These are carried out as part of the Welsh Government Mental Health Measures 2010.

Our teams also seek to build confidence in schools when managing the mental health and emotional wellbeing difficulties in children and young people. This will comprise the postholder providing regular delivery of advice, consultation and training to school staff, being responsive to their requests for help and support as and when required.
