Job summary

This appointment is for Specialty Doctors within a Dermatology team. You will join a dynamic and busy team, made up of a Consultant Plastic Surgeon, Locum Consultant Dermatologist, Skin Cancer and Inflammatory specialist nurses with support for GPs with extended roles in Dermatology.

You will be based in Prince Philip Hospital, although other working locations including Glangwili Hospital and Withybush Hospital may be necessary and will form part of your agreed job plan. This will be subject to change as the Health Board's clinical requirements are amended to meet the needs of the service/patients.

The post offers excellent opportunities to gain valuable experience in busy and supportive departments. Clinics host a range of clinical conditions from skin cancer to specialist biologic interventions, as well as paediatric Dermatology.

Main duties of the job

  • Integral to the responsibilities of the post are the following requirements:- To ensure the provision and delivery of a first class clinical service

Clinical

The appointee is expected to be involved in and assist with the development of an innovative and high quality service. The appointed dermatologist needs to remain flexible in regard to the changing needs of the service as a whole, as it continues to develop and expand.

The post holder will be expected to provide a full service to all Hywel Dda patients who need to be seen in clinic. This could include:

  • Outpatient and inpatient management of patients with dermatological diseases.
  • Dermatological emergencies.
  • Provision of teledermatological support/management advice.
  • Contribution to the CPD of the GPs in working in Primary and Secondary Care in Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire.
  • Provision of clinical guidance and support to Dermatology Specialist Nurses working within the Region.
  • Provision of clinical advice and support to enable the further development/modernisation of Dermatology Services within Pembrokeshire/Carmarthenshire/Ceredigion.
  • Supervision and training of F2 doctors and Specialist Registrars if relevant.
  • Participation in clinical audit, medical student teaching and research.
  • The post-holder will be required to comply with the requirements for CME/CPD and governance policies. The Health Board supports study leave.
