Job summary

The North Ceredigion Primary Care Cluster is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and innovative experienced Practitioner Psychologist with excellent clinical and communication skills to join our new multi-disciplinary Chronic Pain team. This is an ideal opportunity to be part of a new and actively developing service where emphasis is on delivering the best possible care for the people of Ceredigion, whilst promoting innovation, research and values based health care in all that we do.

The post is advertised as an 8a. However applicants who do not currently meet the skills and competences for the 8a role, are encouraged to apply and, if successful, will be appointed under annex 21 rules supported by a development plan. Following successful completion and successful attainment of skills and competences for the role the post holder will then be paid at 8a (minimum point on the scale). Excellent support and supervision will be provided in order to develop the practitioner to the 8a banded role. This will be an excellent opportunity for either a psychologist who already has 8a competencies and skills or for a recently qualified psychologist looking for career development.

Main duties of the job

As an experienced Practitioner Psychologist within this team, you will play a leading role in reviewing, auditing, developing and delivering patient care whilst being supported by other Senior Practitioners in the Chronic Pain service within Hywel Dda University Health Board and wider health psychology service. You will be actively interested and contribute to evidence based practice and service development.

You will be involved in providing training to other services and team members and have access to training and actively engage in clinical supervision. You will also provide supervision and mentoring to other team members.

We have developed strong links with the South Wales Clinical Psychology Programme and encourage attendance at their workshops as well as representing the Hywel Dda UHB and the service on various committees. We are also fortunate to have very active clinical and professional networks on an All Wales basis with direct links into the Welsh Assembly Government, local Universities and service delivery groups.

  • Registration with the HCPC as a Practitioner Psychologist
  • Doctoral level training in an appropriate applied psychology (e.g. Clinical or Counselling Psychology), with knowledge of psychopathology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology, as accredited by the BPS
  • Knowledge of the use of psychometrics, appropriate administration and limitations
  • High level knowledge of the theory and practice of at least two specialised psychological therapies
  • Additional Specialist training and experience

Desirable

  • Post qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology
  • Knowledge of physical health conditions and persistent pain and how this impacts people's wellbeing
  • Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies and assessment in persistent pain and related conditions

Experience

Essential

  • Post qualification experience and/or training in at least one area relevant to the post
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity
