Job summary

This substantive post is a replacement post and you will join colleagues in a very dynamic and forward looking Multi Disciplinary Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service. The post will be a 10 session post with the possibility of developing special interest sessions. There are range of opportunities on offer including early intervention psychosis, CAMHS learning disability team, ASD/neurodevelopmental team, perinatal psychiatry / infant mental health, specialist eating disorder service and crisis/liaison.

This post comes during a period of Health Board-wide service reviews, including a comprehensive reconfiguration of Mental Health, Learning Disabilities and S-CAMHS services within the Health Board. The aim is to provide a spectrum of flexible and responsive services for the population across the Health Board.

Main duties of the job

As a senior employee of the Health Board the post holder will work in close co-operation with, and support other clinical, medical professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Health Board's patients.

Integral to the responsibilities of the post are the following requirements:-

  • To provide effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty
  • To sustain and develop teaching and research wherever appropriate
  • To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Health Board's service plans
  • To maintain the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty or the Health Board
  • Core clinical expertise in S-CAMHS
  • Experience and knowledge of running a sub specialty service
  • Leadership and team building skills as well as working as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Delivering care in the community alongside primary health care and social care teams
  • Providing persuasive strategic advice to LHB's and Social Services Departments within the Strategic framework of the S-CAMHS Service
  • Addressing the Intermediate Care Agenda
  • You are expected to maintain your professional development for Revalidation
  • A Teaching and Training Role for medical undergraduates and postgraduates
  • Educational Supervisor role to Junior and Middle Grade Medical Staff
  • To undertake regular multidisciplinary clinical audit and provide evidence based medicine

The successful candidate for this Consultant post will be eligible to hold an Honorary Academic title at a partner university on the understanding that they will participate in undergraduate teaching, including acting as an examiner, and support and facilitate research activities in an appropriate university faculty and school. They will take direction in these activities via the appropriate academic lead. The agreement to define the Honorary Academic responsibilities and associated programmed activities in relation to teaching time and research will be negotiated jointly between the post holder, the university and the Health Board. It will form part of the successful candidates job plan. The award of the Honorary Academic contract will be dependent upon a formal application being submitted to the university in accordance with the Honorary Appointments procedures and will be available on a fixed term basis subject to satisfactory performance in the academic activity undertaken.
