Salary: £86,063 - £111,732 per annum

Seeking to appoint an enthusiastic motivated Consultant Anaesthetist to support Anaesthetic provision across Critical Care and Theatres at Glangwili and Prince Philip General Hospitals in Carmarthenshire.

You will work across Critical Care and Theatre locations, which includes an on-call commitment. You will require a specialist interest in intensive care medicine to join our enthusiastic team in the delivery high quality Critical Care to the population of Carmarthenshire.

Our mission is to provide a first class health service, with high quality patient care and experience at the centre of our vision. Team members play a key role in the shaping and development of Anaesthetic and Critical Care services across the Health Board.

ICM work will primarily be undertaken in Glangwili Hospital, with on call responsibility to both Prince Philip and Glangwili Hospital.

The Critical Care week is from Monday to Friday 8 am to 6pm beginning with a consultant led handover from the night to the day team. On call attracts a band 3 supplement and is provided at a frequency of 1 in 10. We provide prospective cover for ICU, so all leave is taken during theatre weeks. Theatre sessions are available in a variety of specialties and will be agreed with the successful applicant based on Sub specialty interests.

Main duties of the job

Glangwili Hospital has 403 Inpatient beds, providing acute surgical and medical services to the area. It also provides all consultant led obstetric care and paediatric services for the south of the region and all ENT surgery for the Health Board.

Prince Phillip Hospital has 218 inpatient beds and provides acute medical services and elective surgery, including Orthopaedics, Breast Surgery, Urology, Colorectal and General Surgery.

Prince Philip will shortly provide an expanded day surgery service with a new build comprising of two operating theatres. This will increase the day case capacity in Carmarthenshire and support an increase in inpatient flow through Prince Philip.

There is currently a 1:10 consultant on call rota in place with the intention of expanding to 1:11 following this appointment. The cover for theatres at both hospitals includes the surgical, trauma, obstetric and paediatric emergencies, although no out of hours surgery is normally undertaken at Prince Philip Hospital.

This post does not have a Critical Care component.

As a senior employee of the Health Board the post holder will work in close co-operation with, and support other clinical, medical professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Health Board's patients. You will provide leadership, develop teaching, supporting and training multidisciplinary teams, participate in CPD as well as developing and delivering a comprehensive service in Anaesthetics

  • Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice
  • On Specialist Register/SpR due to obtain relevant CCT/CESR(CP) within 6 months of interview
  • Fellowship of the Royal College of anaesthetics (FRCA) (or equivalent)
  • Valid certified advanced life support skills

Desirable

  • Appropriate higher degree, MD, PhD or MSc or equivalent
  • Joint CCT in Critical Care medicine (or equivalent) and anaesthesia
