Are you an Ophthalmic Nurse, Optometrist or Orthoptist looking for a new challenge?

The Ophthalmology department in Hywel Dda University Health Board is looking to recruit experienced ophthalmic practitioners to undertake an exciting challenge and train to become an advanced practitioner within the Intravitreal Therapy service. This will include patient assessment as well as treatment delivery.

Previous ophthalmic experience is essential; for nurses, a specific ophthalmic qualification is required. Nurses currently undertaking specific ophthalmic qualification will be considered, but extensive experience will be considered as well as a desire to train, in the absence of formal evidence of learning.

The successful applicant must be willing to undertake learning on a continuous basis, as part of this role. We are looking for a self-motivated, enthusiastic, caring and kind practitioner to be part of this team, who has a desire to sub-specialise within the macular service.

Flexibility is essential for this role, as is the ability to travel between sites. The successful applicant must be comfortable working independently, but always within own scope of practice and within a team.

This is a part-time position with a variety of hours available. Primary Care colleagues looking for 1-day / week commitment are welcome to apply.

Informal discussions are recommended, please contact via email to arrange these.

The successful applicant will participate in the organisation of the IVT service, including working closely with the AMD coordinators to ensure optimisation of clinical times and management of waiting list.

Be able to participate in all the testing required for patients within the IVT service.

Be able to clinically assess and provide treatment by means of an intravitreal injection/implant to patients within the IVT service, following medical guidance and treatment protocol.

To demonstrate highly developed clinical skills when treating patients by means of intravitreal injection where accuracy is of paramount importance and there is no margin for error.

To take an active role on developing own knowledge, skills and competencies, adhering by service training programme, participating in own PDR and maintaining a professional portfolio.

To work as part of the multi-disciplinary team, providing expert advice to colleagues, patients and carers as required, aiming to promote health and independence, and prevent disease.

To behave in a professional manner at all times, adhering to uniform protocol, maintaining high standards of care and by applying a range of interpersonal skills when addressing patients/carers/other professionals.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
