Job summary

You will be able to demonstrate an aptitude and ability to work with clients with mental health needs and to be proactive in developing your clinical skills and competencies, within this specialist field. You will demonstrate a clinical understanding of holistic, client centred care and effectively contribute clinically to multi- disciplinary team discussions and service development.

You will be working collaboratively with the patient, their family / carer and the third sector. This is pertinent in developing services to improve the health and wellbeing of this client group. As part of this, you will be implementing recovery principles to include recovery through activity groups. You will play a key role in capturing Occupational Therapy (OT) outcome measures to demonstrate the value of OT intervention in terms of its effectiveness in treatment, rehabilitation and preventing hospital admission. You will require effective communication, organisation and decision making skills with enthusiasm and passion for this specialist field. You will provide clinical support to an established OT Technical staff team. You will be supported through planned supervision, ongoing personal development plans with regular reviews and continued professional development opportunities.

Main duties of the job

Operates as an autonomous practitioner in an inpatient setting , using specialist knowledge of occupational therapy and the functional impact of health conditions to appropriately select, plan, modify, carry out and evaluate assessments and interventions. Works as part of a team, which may be multi professional and/or multi-agency, to deliver a prudent, coordinated and person-focussed service. Gathers, collates and synthesises information from a variety of sources to inform assessments, plans and interventions.

Formulates clinical decisions and recommendations, and develops person centred plans, based on evidence from assessment process, specialist knowledge of occupational therapy and relevant evidence based clinical guidance and pathways. Works independently or alongside other members of the team, where relevant, to plan, organise and deliver therapeutic interventions with individuals or groups.

Advises/educates and demonstrates specific techniques/strategies to the individual and their families/carers, if relevant, to support the ongoing management of the individual's recovery. Evaluates the outcome of interventions with the individual, adapting plan as appropriate.

Manages own workload effectively and considers team workload prioritising and amending work plans across the team based on clinical need and to meet service requirements.

Job responsibilities

This post is advertised as a Band 6, however applicants who do not currently hold all the necessary competencies to a Band 6 level are encouraged to apply and, if successful, will be appointed under Annex 21 rules whereby 75% of the top of Band 6 will be payable during the 12 months. Applicants would be supported to develop their competencies required to fulfil the role within 12 months. Failure to achieve the competencies in the designated timeframe could result in re-deployment.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Adapts and modifies own working practices to facilitate effective and efficient, person-centred pathways. Develops and adheres to risk management plans when working with individuals and reports any changes in risk status to other relevant professionals i.e care coordinator.

The post holder will have current HCPC registration and will be expected to travel between sites in a timely manner to visit patients at home.

As 7-day services are being developed, applicants must be prepared to work as part of a rota over 7 days.

Mileage allowance is payable when travelling to locations other than the post holders base.
