Job summary

Hywel Dda University Health Board is seeking to appoint a motivated and enthusiastic individual to support the Vaccination and Sampling service. The Health Care Support Worker will work as part of the Vaccination and Sampling Team in delivering a safe and effective service in testing for covid-19, outbreak sampling and delivering vaccinations. These activities will be carried out in a variety of settings including vaccination centres, patient's homes, residential and nursing homes, clinic and hospital settings and 'pop up' venues.

Be able to travel and transport equipment and information to different venues as required.

There will be a requirement to work across the Health Board footprint.

They will work under the supervision of a registered nurse and contribute to the implementation of nursing care as assessed by the registered nurse.

Main duties of the job

Administer vaccines into the client's upper arm (deltoid muscle) in accordance with training and local and national protocols, procedures and standards.

Carry out a range of clinical procedures e.g. throat and / or nasal swabbing for covid-19, point of care testing for covid-19, venepuncture and sending of specimens, recording of vital signs, administration of medications.

Wear adequate PPE equipment in line with national guidelines. Conduct hand hygiene before and after each vaccination.Be able to respond and raise issues or concerns with the registered nurse on complications or emergency situations.

The post holder will undertake a range clinical and clerical activities supported and delegated by the nursing team. These activities will be carried out in a variety of settings which may include the patient's home, clinic settings, residential and nursing homes, testing units/testing cell and in-patient areas. This will include working in a multi-disciplinary and multi-agency arena.

The post holder will hold level 3 NVQ / QSF in a health care associated certificate or possess skills, knowledge and experience to an equivalent level / or be prepared to commit to begin this qualification within 3 months of commencing the role.
