The Pathology Department at Hywel Dda University Health Board has an exciting opportunity for an energetic, enthusiastic and motivated HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist to lead and have operational oversight in the Point of Care Testing service in Hywel Dda university health board
Applicants also need to be able to demonstrate a high level of technical knowledge and competence, good interpersonal skills and evidence of involvement in laboratory technical projects or developments. Previous experience of working in POCT and involvement in preparation of ISO documentation desired.
Our POCT department has a wide range of equipment spread across multiple sites including blood gas analysers, Glucose/Ketone meters, Urine pregnancy and Urinalysis readers, INR, and Flu/ COVID-19 testing, many of which are interfaced to electronic patient records via POCcelerator.

Main duties of the job
As a Section Manager the post holder will be the specialist in their area and will be responsible for providing expert advice to users of the service, evaluating new methodologies, developing, growing and optimizing the service;
- To be responsible for supervising and organising the technical diagnostic services within Point of Care Testing.
- To be responsible for the delivery and development of existing POCT services and to facilitate future expansion of POCT.
- Ensure the POCT service is safe, cost effective and complies with current POCT standards, clinical governance, health and safety and risk management policies.
- Perform routine and complex analytical techniques and undertake specific designated managerial duties as required.
