Locum Consultant in Cardiology
Base: Prince Philip Hospital
Salary: £98,897 per annum
This is an exciting opportunity for a Locum Cardiologist to join the forward-thinking Cardiology Team at Prince Philip Hospital at a time when the Health Board is engaged in a pioneering Cardiology Pathway Transformation Programme across West Wales.
This new position will, as a member of a network of Cardiologists across the Health Board, support the Cardiology services at Prince Philip hospital predominantly but may require some travel to and support of any of the other 3 acute sites. This appointment will complement the existing 11 substantive Cardiology Consultants in providing a high-quality Cardiology service to the population of Mid & West Wales.
Main duties of the job
This role will provide opportunities to develop a specialist interest to compliment the other Cardiology Consultants. Dependant on your sub-speciality area of interest, diagnostic and procedural sessions will be available either on-site or at another Health Board acute site including DSE, TOE, pacing, angiography, CT Coronary Angiography, Myocardial Perfusion Scanning and complex device follow-up. There may also be scope to consider procedural activity at Morriston Tertiary Cardiac Centre.
Prince Philip Hospital has a well-equipped Cardio-Respiratory Physiology department with facilities for treadmill exercise testing, echocardiography including DSE, TOE and Holter monitoring. There is a vascular lab where cardiac catheterisation takes place on site 4 days a week performing nearly 800 cases per year (interventional cardiology is not performed within Hywel Dda University Health Board). Development of permanent pacing at Prince Philip Hospital is part of the longer-term vision for the service. There are specialist nurses running AF, Palpitation and Chest Pain Clinics as well as technician led valve clinics.
You would work in both the acute, secondary care setting, as well as support areas of the cardiology service delivered in the community and primary care as we strive to innovate and develop increasingly community orientated Cardiology services.
