Providing managerial leadership for the Innovation & TriTech Division in order to support high-quality innovation in healthcare with commercial & university partners.
The Research and Innovation Department oversees a portfolio of innovation activities, supporting teams across the organisation develop and evaluate new ways of working and technologies, including partnerships with universities and industry.
The Innovation section of the Department includes the recent development of the TriTech Institute, which is staffed by a dedicated team of experts from a wide range of specialities including engineers, scientists and clinicians. Combining clinical and research design skills with technical engineering experience, TriTech manages all parts of the innovation pathway including concept, design, prototyping, research, clinical testing/trials, and finally to established service evaluation. The institute is housed at a dedicated facility designed to cope with a wide range of highly complex innovative medical devices and software platforms.
Main duties of the job
Main duties and responsibilities include..
Be managerially accountable for the delivery of all services provided by the TriTech and Innovation;
Responsible for the provision of a structured ISO 13485 quality system covering device design and testing.
Identifies explicit and implied clinical service requirements in detail. Analyses and reviews requirements against safety and other standards, identifying conflicting demands.
Communicates research information to and exchanges specialist information with colleagues from own and other disciplines, presents research findings to conferences or other large groups.
Negotiates and agrees complex development specifications, ensuring commercial partner understanding or any limitations and implications.
Integrates conflicting elements and works to national standards when identifying, evaluating and selecting solutions.
Undertakes risk assessments and evaluates the safety and efficacy of medical devices within a research area.
Provides research input and support to a number of service and Health Board groups.
Ensures that Health Board policies, UK, and EC legislation relevant to TriTech and Innovation are met.
Advises the Health Board on research issues relating to TriTech and Innovation.
Supports the development of Health Board policies relating to research.
