Job: Locum Consultant in Obstetrics & Gynaecology

Salary: £98,897 per annum

Base: Glangwili General Hospital, Carmarthenshire

Hours: 37.5 hours / 10 sessions per week

Contract: Fixed Term, 12 Months

This is a one year locum consultant post for Obstetrics and Gynaecology based in Glangwili General Hospital.

You will be joining a team of 12 Consultants who do maternity cover on call at Glangwili Hospital 1:12 with Hot Week cover of 1:12 weeks. The on calls are from 5pm to 9 am and the Hot Week cover is Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5pm. There is 1:12 weekend cover which again is from 5pm Friday to Monday 9am. The on call cover also includes elective caesarean section list which is 1:12. The caesarean list is covered in the afternoon with the middle grade.

All the maternity and Gynae emergency work is based in Glangwili Hospital. This job attracts interest in Hysteroscopy or Urogynae but will not be mandatory and other special interests will be considered.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the job will be to provide the programmed activities at Glangwili General Hospital which includes a general antenatal clinic alternate weeks and a general Gynae clinic. It would be desirable if the special interest is there in outpatient Hysteroscopy or Urogynae otherwise there will be opportunity will be given to maintain their special interest.

Nine consultants are based in Glangwili Hospital who share the outpatient clinics in Glangwili and Prince Philip Hospital. Withybush Hospital has a team of five Consultants and this job includes one of them for maternity leave cover. There is a Midwifery Led Unit in Withybush Hospital. The on call by Withybush Consultants are done at Glangwili General Hospital but other programmed activities are in Withybush Hospital. Bronglais Hospital is an independent hospital with four Consultants based there. They deliver low risk patients with 500 deliveries.

The department has a strong clinical governance framework with MDT, CTG reflections and PROMPT training in place. You will have an opportunity to participate in teaching and education with a close working relationship within the team and with a very supportive working environment.

  • Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice
  • MRCOG
  • Valid Certified Advanced Life Support Skills

Desirable

  • Appropriate Higher Degree e.g. MD, PhD or MSc or equivalent
  • On specialist register with GMC or CCT or CESR or equivalent European qualifications for specialist registration

Clinical Experience

  • Broad based experience in Obstetrics and Gynaecology
  • Knowledge of the UK hospital systems (or equivalent)
  • Knowledge and participation in CPD
