Consultant Breast Surgeon
Base: Prince Philip Hospital, Llanelli, Carmarthenshire
Salary: £86,063 - £111,732 per annum
The appointment is for a Health Board wide Consultant Breast Surgeon (With an interest in Breast Screening), with a job plan between Withybush Hospital and Prince Philip Hospital, and will include a weekly sessional commitment to Breast Test Wales, Swansea (12 miles away).
Other working locations including off site working may be necessary and may become part of your agreed job plan. This may be subject to change as the Health Board's clinical requirements are updated to meet the needs of the service/patients.
Main duties of the job
You will join a team of one surgical colleague at WGH, one surgical colleague at Bronglais Hospital (BGH) and two surgical colleagues at Prince Philip Hospital (PPH), in a very dynamic and forward-looking Breast Care Unit with screening and symptomatic responsibilities.
The principal place of work for this post is across both Withybush Hospital, Haverfordwest and Prince Philip Hospital, Llanelli. The post holder is expected to undertake their programmed activities at both sites with clinics in Breast Test Wales, Swansea. A planned and cost-effective approach is expected and is included in the DCC sessional allocation. The post holder may be required to work at any site within the Health Board, including new sites
Duties include:
- To provide, with consultant colleagues, a service in breast disease management and supporting the development of sub-speciality interest to the hospitals and community so designated with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of breast disease.
- To ensure the provision and delivery of a first-class clinical service
- Operating on patients with screen detected breast cancers
- Addressing the Intermediate Care Agenda
- To share the responsibility for the management of patients with breast disease
- To provide services to both symptomatic and screen detected patients
- To support the development and delivery of a subspecialty service in hospital and in the community
- To develop and deliver a comprehensive service in Breast Care
