Post based in Glangwili General Hospital, Carmarthen.Hywel Dda University Health Board is one of seven acute Health Boards in Wales. It provides primary and secondary care services for 375,000 residents within its borders in the counties of Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion. There are four acute hospitals, Withybush General Hospital, Glangwili General Hospital, Bronglais General Hospital and Prince Philip Hospital.The Health Board is fully committed to supporting employees to achieve an appropriate work life balance. Training and education are central to the function of the Health Board, forming a core element of the Clinical Governance Strategy. Hywel Dda is the prescribed connection for approximately 800 Doctors, with a dedicated Medical Appraisal and Revalidation Lead and Manager, who manages and co-ordinates appraisal and revalidation processes across all sites.The Health Board has University status with strong links to the Swansea & Cardiff Universities to promote research & development and multi-professional teaching.

Main duties of the job

The Postgraduate Department in Glangwili General Hospital has a fully developed programme of guest lectures and lunchtime meetings, including special interest groups and coordinated intra-practice activities and career counselling. The library offers a wide ranging book collection, with interlibrary lending network, excellent IT facilities, audio-visual and conferencing equipment.

Glangwili Hospital is a busy regional hospital providing all general services for West Wales (General Surgery, Trauma and Orthopaedics included). The acute medical intake is mainly unselected and the post holder would be expected to equally share emergency medical admissions with general medical colleagues from all disciplines (Geriatrics, Cardiology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Respiratory). Renal and Neurology support are regional services provided by Swansea hospitals. The hospital includes a large ACCU / HDU facility run by Consultant Intensive Care staff who work closely with medical colleagues.
