Job summary

Applications are invited for 2 newly developed posts as a Specialty Doctor in Community Paediatrics in Hywel Dda University Health Board.

You will be joining a directorate committed to implementing positive change, with dynamic and forward thinkingcolleagues engaged in the:

  • Development of a comprehensive Community Child Health service across the Health Board
  • Development of teaching, training and research within the Organisation

    We appreciate that candidates may need a period of supervised support to develop the skills needed to deliver this role, and we can offer this within the team.

    There is a well-established programme of CPD within the directorate.

    As services are developed and changed, the base of posts may alter and you may be expected, within an agreed clinical strategy and following discussion , to move your sessions as the service requires.

Main duties of the job

To provide, with consultant colleagues, a holistic, equitable and high quality service in Community Child Health for children and young people within the Health Board.

All clinical staff are accountable and responsible for their own clinical competence and should limit their actions to those for which they are deemed competent and capable. Clinical staff are also required to comply with the requirements of their professional organisation regarding supervision.

As a senior employee of the Health Board the post holder will work in close co-operation with, and support other clinical, medical professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Health Board's patients.

  • 48 general practices (four of which are managed practices), 47 dental practices (including three orthodontic), 99 community pharmacies, 44 general ophthalmic practices (43 providing Eye Health Examination Wales and 34 low vision services) and 17 domiciliary only providers and 11 health centres;
  • Numerous locations providing mental health and learning disabilities services;
  • Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.
