Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic individual(s) to join our team to undertake the role of Approvals Administrator.

This post will be fixed term for 12 months to provide maternity cover.

This role is part of the Support and Delivery Centres Approvals Team within Health and Care Research Wales. Health and Care Research Wales is a networked organisation, supported by Welsh Government, which brings together a wide range of partners across the NHS in Wales, local authorities, universities, research institutions, third sector and others.

The post holder will require excellent communication skills, have a positive and flexible approach to the needs of the Service, be motivated, ready for the next challenge and enjoy working as part of a very busy team.

The post may close early if sufficient applications are received.

Main duties of the job

The role will support the Research Ethics Committees in the preparation of agendas and provision of meeting administration including minute taking. The post-holder will support the tracking of studies to deliver a coordinated service to applicants and have a working knowledge of the approvals process as a whole.

The post-holder will be part of a wider team, which will ensure that appropriate reviews have been completed and recorded in line with agreed processes.

The role will require collaborative working with a range of stakeholders, internal and external, though primarily with staff from Approvals Operations and current and prospective Research Ethics Committee members. This will require the post-holder to work under their own initiative under general oversight and direction from the line manager, and display a high level of tact, diplomacy and emotional intelligence.

Essential

  • Higher level secondary education (e.g. A - levels/NVQ level 3 Administration or equivalent qualification) Plus relevant experience in an administration role including dealing with non-routine issues and problem solving
  • Understanding of the HCRW / HRA role and remit
  • Knowledge of a range of administrative practices and procedures plus evidence of practical experience at a similar level
  • Well-developed knowledge and expertise of operating systems within the NHS or similar field
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise against a background of change and uncertainty
  • Ability to work to frequent deadlines
