Job summary

Are you looking for an exciting and unique experience? An opportunity has arisen with Powys Teaching Health Board for a Pharmacy Technician to join our team. We are looking for someone who is motivated and passionate about patient care and wants to improve patient services to join us to work within our pharmacy team, supporting our community and community hospitals.

You will be at the forefront of delivering the service, working alongside clinicians, community hospital and district nurses, the mental health team, therapists, community and practice pharmacists and specialist nurses. You will be supported by experienced Medicines Management Team of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, MM nurses, pharmacy assistants and administration staff. You will be a highly valued member of the team and we will provide ongoing personal development and training opportunities.

The post offers a permanent post at 37.5 hrs per week, working as part of North Powys ward-based team. Applications from registered Technicians who already hold an ACPT qualification and are Medicines Management accredited would be preferable but applications from technicians without these will be considered. Secondment requests will be considered and applications are welcomed from current pre-registration pharmacy technicians who are due to register in the next few months (note depending on experience Annex 21 arrangements may apply).

Main duties of the job

The role will include supporting teams and patients in a variety of care environments - primarily community hospitals but also virtual wards and patient's own homes. Always ensuring that the best is obtained from medicines.

Improve near-patient services by managing medication on the ward, including stock/ assessing patient's own medicines. Electronic ordering of medicines. Confirming medication histories with patients and reconciling medicines. Counselling patients about new medicines.

Liaising with clinical pharmacists, multidisciplinary team (MDT) members and primary care colleagues

SOPs and safe systems development and provision.

Facilitate the effective discharge of patients and their medicines. This may include supporting patients and care staff post discharge.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
