Job summary

A unique and exciting opportunity has arisen for an exceptional individual to be appointed as a Band 8a CRUK Senior Research Nurse who will be responsible for strong clinical leadership and will support national CRUK priorities and activities and delivery of the CRUK Strategy (2023) in Wales.

The CRUK Senior Research Nurse will be an experienced independent specialist practitioner who will work within the National Research Delivery Team to lead and support workforce development initiatives and workplans.

The post holder will have a key role in the clinical operational implementation and management of cancer research delivery programmes across Wales.

The post holder will require excellent communication skills, have a positive and flexible approach to the needs of the Service, be motivated, ready for the next challenge and enjoy working as part of a very busy team.

Main duties of the job

The key duties are to:

  • be responsible for strong dynamic clinical leadership for alignment and management of the CRUK Strategy (2023) in Wales.

  • have a key role in developing and implementing the ambitions of One Wales research delivery in the cancer setting.

  • drive strategies to raise awareness and value of research as NHS core business and will proactively implement and support innovative approaches to delivering cancer trials.

  • work closely with the rest of the CRUK Senior Research Nurse network to identify and deliver on network-wide objectives.

  • play a key role within strategic groups in Wales including workstreams within the Wales Cancer Research Centre and in relation to the CReSt strategy; meetings and forums related to Advanced Therapies Wales; Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre Wales and strategic partnerships with industry related to cancer clinical trials and other CRUK funded infrastructure across Wales.

  • work with the National Research Delivery Team to lead and support workforce development initiatives and workplans and to support national CRUK priorities and activities related to the research delivery workforce across NHS Wales.

  • represent devolved nations as required at CRUK meetings/events nationally and internationally.

Essential

  • Nursing degree first level registration and current nursing registration
  • Educated to master's level, undertaking or willing to undertake a MSc
  • Substantial Oncology Experience including experience in undertaking, coordinating and managing clinical research
  • Knowledge of cancer research cancer services in NHS organisations
  • Understanding of cancer medical and research terminology and concepts
  • Specific domain/theoretical/ practical knowledge of organisations, processes, policy knowledge relevant to cancer research
  • Capable of leading and initiating change

Experience

Essential

  • Working within NHS setting to deliver commercial and non- commercially funded research
  • Professional leadership at an operational level
  • Experience of supporting service users and / or their carers in research involvement
  • Significant management experience in an NHS senior role including staff management
  • Extensive experience in research management within the NHS/Healthcare setting
  • Experience of partnership building between organisations
  • Proven and significant leadership experience including experience of leadership in organisational change
  • Project management qualification or significant experience in managing complex and large projects/programmes
  • Strong understanding of Research Governance and the legislative framework
  • Understanding of the NHS clinical environment
  • Flexible approach to working including problem solving skills, management of change and a desire to develop knowledge
