Job summary
To assist in the provision of quality, evidence based care for women experiencing moderate to severe mental illness, by providing advice and support on Early Years parenting and child care. The Nursery Nurse will work as a member of the wider Perinatal Mental Health Service assisting the multidisciplinary team in meeting the needs of women and their families by undertaking delegated duties that support family centred care. The post holder will ensure that there is appropriate communication with other professionals and agencies involved in the care of the mother and child. Under the supervision of the perinatal mental health practitioner, the post holder will provide support and education to defined caseload of women with moderate to severe perinatal mental health problems, and those with pre-existing severe mental health disorders to help promote well-being, promote mother-infant relationships and reduce risk, during a vulnerable time for women's mental health.
Main duties of the job
Undertake screening and/or other health related and developmentalassessments as and when directed by the Specialist Mental Health Midwife.Refer to appropriate agencies in collaboration with the Perinatal Practitioner. Ensure the delivery of evidence-based practice to facilitate effective care. Work with parents to increase their knowledge and skills to enable them to identify and meet their own and children's health needs under the supervision of the Perinatal Practitioner. Work in partnership with service users, other agencies, and providers to provide integrated and cohesive support for children and their families, under the direction of the Perinatal Practitioner. Provide monitoring visits to support the management of risk in the community under direction of the Perinatal Practitioners, and to report the outcome of such monitoring contact. Help to organise and lead Parenting programmes and other groups facilitated by the team.
