Job summary

The Principal Clinical/Counselling Psychologist will be responsible for supporting the development and implementation of all aspects of a psychologically informed and trauma-informed approach on Felindre Acute Inpatient Unit. This will involve direct and indirect work with clients, families, ward staff, and the MDT, in additional to working closely with one or both of the Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Teams (CRHTTs) in Powys.

We are looking to recruit The Principal Psychologist post at a part-time (0.6) basis. However, if additional hours were sought by the right candidate, there are opportunities to negotiate adding on a part-time (0.4) supplementary Principal Psychologist post (Band 8b) from elsewhere within the Psychology Service.

Main duties of the job

The Principal Psychologist will provide a highly specialised Psychology Service to clients on Felindre Acute Inpatient Unit and to clients of the Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Team, providing:

Specialised psychological assessment and formulation. Developing, delivering and/or overseeing the delivery of brief psychological interventions, including brief psychological groups.

Contributing to discharge and transition plans and reports.

Providing psychological supervision and consultation, training, advice and support to colleagues on the ward and in the CRHTT.

Systematic governance of staff's psychological practice, to ensure the delivery of high-quality psychology services within the framework of the team/service policies and procedures and in accordance with local and national guidelines.

Contributing to the development of inpatient team policies and procedures to facilitate improvements in service quality.

Advising service and professional management on aspects of the service related to the team where psychological and/or organisational matters need addressing.

Essential

  • Post-graduate Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the British Psychological Society
  • Registration with Health and Care Professions Council as a Clinical Psychologist
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and its implications for both clinical practice and professional management
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development as recommended by the BPS and HCPC
  • Demonstration of further specialist training / experience through having received extensive and demonstrable clinical supervision of working as a specialist Clinical Psychologist or an alternative agreed by the Director of Psychology

Desirable

  • Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice
  • Recognised qualification in supervision

Experience

Essential

  • Substantial post qualification experience of working as a qualified and senior Clinical / Counselling Psychologist, normally including significant postqualification experience within the designated speciality
  • Experience of working with client groups across an increasing range of clinical severity
