Job summary

An opportunity has arisen in The Community Mental Health Team based in Newtown . As a service we are looking to work flexibly with the successful applicant.

This is an exciting, busy and challenging time and we are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic Specialist Occupational Therapist to work within the team. As part of a older adults multi-disciplinary team, the OT will carry out OT assessments and provide Specialist OT interventions for patients accessing secondary and primary care. The role has been shaped to allow the successful candidate to focus on evidence-based OT interventions.

Main duties of the job

To provide an OT Service within the designated area of older adults. This includes CMHT, MAS, Inpatient ward and DHTT.

To manage a caseload of clients with complex needs, using evidence based/client centred principles to assess, plan implement and evaluate interventions.

To provide leadership for junior staff through supervision and appraisal.

To participate in the planning, development and evaluation of Occupational Therapy services within a designated area/team, holding responsibility for defined projects.

To contribute to the maintenance and development of PTHB Occupational Therapy Service.

To regularly supervise Occupational Therapy students on practice placements.

To deputise for Team Leader when necessary.

To work flexible across locality.

To provide cover in other areas/specialities as appropriate and within competencies.

To provide a flexible service in locations most appropriate to patient's needs, e.g. home, community hospital, outpatients, day hospital,day centre, health centre and residential homes.

To allocate work to Support Staff, at all times monitoring their skills and competencies.

To ensure that up to date written and electronic records and activity are maintained in accordance with RCOT and PTHB Standards and provide Occupational Therapy reports based on specialist assessment.

To assess and identify specialist equipment to meet the complex needs of clients, using evidence based reasoned practice.

  • Evidence of significant post graduate training e.g. range of short courses, in-house training
