Job summary
The postholder will be responsible for operational management of the School Nursing service for a specified locality and will share strategic practice development and clinical governance responsibility for Powys Teaching Health Board (PTHB) School Nursing with the Assistant Head of Children's Public Health Nursing. This will include strategic development and implementation of service policies, standards, audit, measures and training.
Responsible for line management of staff and allocated resources within the School Nursing service in order to achieve national, regional, PTHB and area objectives.
Be a proactive leader supporting staff through change management process in order to improve service requirements within the public health agenda ad provide specialist knowledge, support and guidance to the School Nursing team and Assistant Head of Children's Public Health Nursing.
Main duties of the job
Work with the Assistant Head of Children's Public Health Nursing to ensure that practice complies with organisational aims and duties, including the Nursing and Midwifery Strategy and Powys One Plan.
Responsible for the operational management and deployment of School Nursing within a defined area This includes management of the School Nursing service where there is sickness, maternity leave, long term absence, planned and unplanned staff absence as per the PTHB Vacant Policy. Provide initial authorisation for training for training applications, staff workforce changes. Take responsibility for authorisation of travel claims, operational management of recruitment, induction, termination of School Nursing team staff. Monitor all leave including annual leave, sickness, study leave as per PTHB policies and guidelines.
Provide leadership in development of the School Nursing service in line with developments in partnership working, sound practice and efficient transformation of service delivery, being a proactive leader supporting staff through the change management process in order to improve service requirements within the public health agenda.
