Cardiologist with a Sub-Specialty Interest in Imaging

Job summary

Applications are invited for this post based at the Wrexham Maelor Hospital. The appointee will make up a team of six Consultant Cardiologists. This post has arisen from plans to reconfigure and strengthen our existing services. We are particularly seeking to strengthen our already well-developed services in cardiovascular imaging. Expertise in either of these areas would be particularly welcome. However, other subspecialty interests would also be considered and we would like to emphasise the indicative Job Plan can be modified to suit the successful applicant.

Main duties of the job

Together with the other Consultant Cardiology staff the post holder will provide the following:

  • A comprehensive inpatient and outpatient cardiology service supported by other members of the department.
  • Local and regional heart failure service.
  • Local and regional cardiology service management development in collaboration with the BCUHB Cardiology Strategic Board.
  • Professional supervision and teaching of junior medical staff.
  • Contributions to local undergraduate and postgraduate activity.
  • Participation in clinical audit, continuing professional development and clinical governance activities on a local, Health Board and All Wales basis.
  • Development of research and professional interests.
  • Adhere to the BCUHB policies and guidelines

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • Full GMC Specialist Registration with a license to practice or within six months of obtaining a CCT at the time of the interview
  • MRCP or equivalent
  • Completed sub-specialty training curriculum in cardiac imaging
  • To have obtained British Society of Echocardiography Accreditation or equivalent
  • Evidence of substantial training in acute and general cardiology

Desirable

  • Higher degree
  • Heart failure or Imaging Fellowship
  • A postgraduate qualification in medical education

Experience

Essential

  • Written record on training and experience in all aspects of heart failure
  • Written record on training and experience in all aspects of pacing and advanced device implantation and follow- up
  • Evidence of participation in teaching and training
  • Undergraduate teaching experience
  • Completed audit of clinical work
