Applications are invited for a Consultant Urological Surgeon to join a well-established Urology team based at Wrexham Maelor Hospital. The position offers an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated person to work in a busy department to help further develop modern Urological Services and to deliver an increasing workload. It is envisaged that the appointee will contribute both to core Urology and to take an active role in extending the current service provision in Andrology, female urology and urethra-genital reconstructive surgery as well as functional Urology to cover the increasing demand for this service across the whole of North Wales.
Main duties of the job
The new consultant is expected to become involved in the existing strong regional Uro-gynaecological Network, the successful candidate will provide sub-speciality services for patients from all three acute hospital sites. Wrexham Maelor is now a tertiary site for Andrology and Genito-Urethral referrals from other Welsh Health Boards.
The post holder will be expected to supplement the existing Andrology, Genito-urethral Reconstructive and Functional Urology Service, in addition to undertaking core urology procedures. Mentorship will be provided as required for safe clinical practice including Penile Prosthesis, Artificial Urinary Sphincter and Urethroplasty.
The post holder will be required to:
- Attend weekly multi-disciplinary team meetings
- Manage complex cases
- Provide clinical leadership
- Develop care plans and treatment formulation, and offer guidance on evidence-based treatment and effectiveness
- Work collaboratively through multi-disciplinary, multi-agency and partnership approaches
- Engage with the Maelor Academic Unit of Medical and Surgical Sciences (MAUMSS), which encourages and supports research within the Health Board and promotes academic activity, basic science, and clinical research across North Wales and beyond. MAUMSS, based in Wrexham, and staffed by an interdisciplinary team of academics, clinicians, scientists and postgraduate students who can lead and support other healthcare professionals in developing and running a wide range of clinical research projects.
