Job summary

The North Wales Cancer Treatment Centre is wishing to recruit an enthusiastic, suitably qualified & experienced Therapy Radiographer to the post of 8a Treatment Superintendent.

Applicants must be committed to improving the quality of clinical services, motivating & developing staff to enable them to respond dynamically to change. You'll have the opportunity to influence & develop the service working in a collaborative environment.

We're seeking a dynamic, capable person with proven leadership abilities. You'll require excellent communication & interpersonal skills with experience of staff management & must be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council. Knowledge in modern radiotherapy principles & practice gained through extensive post graduate practice & underpinned by continuous professional development is essential.

The department has 4 Varian Linear Accelerators (3 Truebeam, 1 Varian iX) & is about to undergo a period of machine replacement. Additionally, there's a Gulmay Orthovoltage Unit, CanonCT Planning Scanner, Prosoma, & an Eclipse TPS,with Surface Guided radiotherapy systems on all Truebeams.

The department works an extended day & the post holder would be expected to work flexibly within the hours of 08:00 to 18:30 to cover the operational needs of the service & to participate in the on-call rota. Core hours are between 08:30-16:30.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:

  • Lead the treatment teams and be responsible for the day-to-day organisation and management of the radiotherapy treatment service.
  • Be responsible for ensuring a patient centred service is maintained, ensuring close liaison with medical and other health professional staff, both within the immediate environment and externally.
  • Act as line manager for the staff working within the treatment area and take overall responsibility for the training and supervision of all staff and students working within the treatment area.
  • Be responsible for the development of tools for the robust monitoring and auditing of radiotherapy treatments, including the documentation of morbidity due to side effects of radiotherapy.
  • Work as a senior member of the radiotherapy operational team, maintaining competency to administer accurate and consistent treatment techniques in line with statutory regulations relating to ionising radiation.
  • Where requested be part of a multidisciplinary team, to advise on the care of patients undergoing radiotherapy treatment.
  • Act as patient advocate.
