Job summary

The post is based at the Wrexham Maelor Hospital (WMH) site which is a strategically important hospital within North Wales. We partner with Glan Clwyd Hospital in Bodelwyddan and Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor as well as associated Community Hospitals, Minor Injury/Illness Units, and Primary Care Services. WMH is part of the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB). This is a fully integrated organisation and one of the largest healthcare providers in the UK.

Emergency Medicine at WMH has undergone a radical transformation towards a modern and rapidly evolving service that is ambitious to see the highest standards of emergency care for its population. We are looking for a Consultant who has the vision, ambition and drive to work alongside the existing team to progress the department.

The department is keen to support Consultants who may have a special interest and BCUHB would consider negotiated job plans to facilitate such interests. If there are any specific areas the potential candidate wishes to explore these can be facilitated. Suitably motivated individualsmay also be able to forge exciting links in several innovative areas, for example sports medicine.

Main duties of the job

The post holder would be expected to contribute to clinical and educational activities within the Directorate as determined by the Consultant and provide a high-quality service to the local population including an emergency on-call commitment.

The current expected on call rota is 1:6 for weekends. The post holder will be on call once per week during Monday to Friday

The post holder is to assist nominated consultants in the supervision and teaching of junior trainees.

The post holder would be expected to contribute to local clinical governance activities including clinical audit and clinical risk initiatives.

The post holder would be required to co-operate with local management in the efficient running of services and expected to share with all colleagues in the medical contribution to management

The post holder will be expected to contribute to quality improvement work in the ED, and support is available to ensure projects are sustainable and successful. The post holder will need to be familiar with modern models of Emergency Care in order to support the department in its goals of improving performance and patient safety.

The ED benefits from excellent support from the key clinical specialties and there are significant opportunities available for the post holder to contributeto liaison work to continue to build and strengthen those relationships.
