Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Unit Manager for the Medical Day Unit. We are looking for a dynamic, forward- thinking individual to join the team.

The Medical Day Unit is a fast-paced unit delivering a range of specialist drugs and treatments to their patients.

MDU is a planned treatment which currently operates Monday to Friday.

The Medical Day Unit provides care for a variety of patients from specialities including Rheumatology, Gastroenterology, Renal, Clinical services, Endocrinology, Dermatology, Respiratory, Hepatology and supports research and development.

You will need to be a highly motivated forward-thinking professional who can demonstrate the ability to lead and support staff in a proactive and effective way. You will be expected to lead, by example, providing evidence-based care to the patients within the unit.

The unit provides therapeutic and maintenance care for patients who are planned to attend for a variety of procedures including blood tests, diagnostic investigations, blood transfusions, infusions, biopsy, and drains.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

You will require relevant, current clinical post registration experience, preferably within a Day Case setting and possess substantial senior management experience with a high level of interpersonal & leadership skills.

It is essential you have the ability and knowledge in delivering the specialised patient treatments, managing care of numerous defined conditions and have the technical skill set to competently perform the necessary invasive/physical aspects of care, including venepuncture & cannulation to assist in supporting patient's diagnosis & treatments.

You will need to display motivational qualities, effective organisational skills, exhibit confident communication skills to engage with staff, patients, various services, hospital clinicians and General Practitioners and maintain excellent clinical links between these services whilst upholding confidentiality at all times. You will be responsible for creating a supportive ethos to ensure appropriate learning opportunities are met for all staff, encouraging best practice to deliver a high quality of patient care at all times and have a good understanding and knowledge of policies and procedures that will be required to support the team.

It would be expected that you take responsibility to ensure your own personal learning and the teams statutory/ mandatory training modules are constantly upheld, including additional modules relevant to the service.
