Job summary
An exciting Inflammatory Bowel Disease Nurse (IBD) training post opportunity has arisen, to join a small nursing team delivering care to patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD: Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis). This is an interesting and varied post involving face to face as well as remote care, management of medications including specialist immunological treatments. Your input into other areas of IBD patient management such as support of inpatients which will give additional breadth to the role. At band 6 entry level you will have support from the existing Advanced Nurse Practitioner and enroll on an IBD degree module within a year to help underpin your practice. You must also work towards a band 7 role with Advanced Nursing qualifications through MSc level modules such as history taking, clinical examination and nurse prescribing. Regular in-house teaching and appropriate external conferences also support essential knowledge in this fast moving field. Personal attributes you will need are excellent communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail even when working under pressure. You must also be proactive and motivated to learn this specialist field to high standard and deliver high-quality, safe, evidence based and compassionate patient care, with excellent organisational skills.
Main duties of the job
The Post holder will:
- Train to develop knowledge in providing comprehensive clinical skills, deliver information, advise and support for patients with IBD
- Train to provide advice and support to IBD patients via the telephone advice line
- Provide advice and support with training, to inpatient IBD patients, to support early discharge from wards.
- Work as an independent practitioner alongside other member of the multidisciplinary team
- Train to assess and prescribe specialist medication
- With training and support, to manage the monitoring of patients receiving biologic and immunosuppressive treatment ensuring relevant tests and prescriptions are completed in a timely manner.
- Support in monitoring and maintaining relevant Health board databases in relation to patient care and monitoring.
- To monitor, maintain and update with training, the IBD national registry.
- Providing advice and support to other professionals including students, medics, nursing staff and other AHP as necessary.
- To establish clear lines of communication within the speciality team to ensure cohesive multidisciplinary management of patients
- With training and support, manage and co-ordinate the IBD MDT and outpatient biologics/follow-up clinics in conjunction with IBD CNS colleagues
- To cross cover the roles of IBD CNS colleagues
- To participate in the IBD users group meetings and external conferences.
- Be flexible within the service to ensure appropriate cove
