Job summary
Applicants are invited to join the enthusiastic and dedicated team in acute neonatal medicine and paediatrics at Glan Clwyd District General Hospital in North Wales. This is a 12-session post (equivalent to 48 hours/week) and the successful candidate will be expected to provide middle-grade support for both inpatient and outpatient services.
Duties will include assessment and management of children referred acutely via the emergency department or their general practitioner and babies admitted to the neonatal unit. Further responsibilities will be in providing supervision and support to less experienced, first on-call tier trainees and non-training doctors. Day-to-day ward cover for the paediatric and neonatal inpatient services will also form part of the working week. This post is part of a 1:10 middle-grade rota.
We anticipate, for the successful applicant, to work on the Tier 1 rota for at least 6 months initially to help adapt to NHS (particularly if no previous experience of working in NHS).However; if the successful applicant has NHS experience, they will commence on the Tier 2 rota.
Main duties of the job

There will be opportunity and support to become involved in service-improvement projects such as clinical audit and guideline development and the post-holder will gain valuable insight and experience in the strategic and team-management aspects of running a service in a district general hospital. The paediatric fellow will be actively involved in our in-house teaching programs for trainees in the foundation program, general practice and paediatrics and there will be opportunities to extend a teaching repertoire to include nurses and other professionals.
