Job summary
To assist the Registered nursing staff and other health care professionals across the Unit and support the day to day services in the outpatient, theatre and day care unit areas carrying out a wide range of duties under supervision during each shift.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
- Assist the registered nurse to deliver a high standard of holistic patient care ensuring that the patients' dignity and equality is maintained at all times.
- Ensure that the principles set out in the Fundamentals of Care are incorporated into daily practice and applied to all patients.
- Maintain accurate and legible patient records. Accurately documenting information relating to patient care as instructed by the registered nurse.
- Ensure positive communication with patients, relatives and carers whilst respecting issues relating to professional confidentiality.
- Observe and report changes in patients' condition or behaviour to the registered nurse.
- Provide psychological and physical support to patients prior to, during and following clinical procedures or investigations; this may be to assist them with seating, mobilising, awareness of their environment or directions to other areas of the department.
- Act as chaperone for patients undergoing examinations or procedures and accompany patients to other departments taking appropriate documents and relaying appropriate messages under the direction of the registered nurse.
- Recognise and respond appropriately to emergency or unplanned situations.
- Prepare ophthalmic environment and equipment for use within the clinical area regarding stock and cleanliness at the start of each session.
- Undertake the responsibility of management and disposal of linen stock and other general housekeeping needs.
