Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to contribute to the delivery and development of library services at Glan Clwyd Hospital. We are seeking an enthusiastic and approachable customer service orientated individual to join our small and friendly team, to provide a range of library services to Health Board staff and students on placement.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be the first point of contact for library users, and duties will include staffing the front desk, answering enquiries, providing book loans and renewals as well as carrying out general housekeeping duties and routine library administrative procedures.

A requirement of the role is the ability to work as part of a team and also to be able to use own initiative and manage the work load. You will have a flexible, adaptable approach to the role to meet changing service needs.

Qualifications and/or Knowledge

Essential

  • Minimum 5 GCSEs grade C or above or equivalent, including English & Maths
  • Relevant vocational qualification at Level 3 e.g. Library & Information NVQ or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
  • Awareness of health & safety regulations
  • Thorough knowledge of using IT software and applications e.g. MS Office, including Teams

Desirable

  • A levels or equivalent
  • ECDL
  • An Understanding of relevant legislation including GDPR, Data Protection and copyright
  • Knowledge of the ALMA Library Management System or other Library Management System
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology

Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience in a customer focused service
  • Experience of office and administration procedures

Desirable

  • Experience of library and information work
  • Understanding/awareness of role of Libraries within healthcare
  • Experience of working in an administrative role within the NHS
  • Experience of using social media (to promote services)
