Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Psychologist to join a well established, psychologically informed multi-disciplinary Pain Management Service West, based at Bryn Y Neuadd Hospital in Llanfairfechan.

The post offers an excellent opportunity to build on existing skills in assessment and evidence-based psychological treatment approaches. The post is a development post and applications are invited from either newly qualified clinical psychologists at band 7 or more experienced at 8a. Appointment and salary will depend on experience.

The post will involve both direct and virtual work with adults experiencing persistent pain working 1:1 and in groups; there are lots of opportunities for service development and developing leadership skills.

The post holder will also be expected to offer advice, consultation and training to colleagues from other disciplines along with joint-working.

Main duties of the job

The Pain Management Service benefits from a long-established, psychology-led multidisciplinary Pain Management Programme that is CBT and ACT based, and the successful candidate will provide a major contribution to this intervention.The PMS team consists of Clinical Psychologists, Consultant Anaesthetists, Clinical Nurse Specialists, and Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist colleagues.

The post holder will also be a member of BCUHB's Department of Health Clinical Psychology. This is a growing department of supportive and friendly Clinical Psychologists who work in physical health services across BCUHB and the department has strong links with the North Wales Clinical Psychology Programme.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Good Honours Degree in Psychology
  • Eligibility for British Psychological Society Chartered Status
  • Post-graduate Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or its equivalent for those that trained prior to 1996 or for those trained overseas), as accredited by the British Psychological Society
  • Registered or eligible for registration with Health and Care Professions Council as a Practitioner Psychologist

Desirable

  • Post-doctoral training courses in specific areas of clinical psychology (8a only)
  • Supervision training (8a post only)

Experience - please mark either 8a or 7 experience

Essential

  • Assessed experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist, normally including post-qualification experience within a health setting or ability to demonstrate relevant transferable skills (8a only)
  • Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care, with experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team (8a only)
  • Experience of working within an MDT setting with relevance to working within a health setting or ability to demonstrate commitment to this area of specialty e.g. specialist training
