Job summary
These are very popular posts based at Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor in North Wales, combining sessions in pre-hospital emergency medicine, transfer and retrieval, anaesthesia and critical care.
The job is suitable for doctors who have completed core training in ACCS, intensive care or anaesthesia.
The job plan will include approximately 2 PHEM shifts a month with EMRTS Cymru. The remainder of the job plan will be predominantly critical care but may also include anaesthetics. The job plan is flexible and will depend on candidates experience, wishes and departmental requirements.
Main duties of the job
Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine - prior experience is unnecessary. All aviation shifts will be under direct supervision by the Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service (www.emrts.cymru).
The post is designed to give an introduction to Prehospital and Retrieval Medicine. It is suitable for candidates who are considering applying for formal PHEM training. PHEM shifts will be undertaken with EMRTS on the Wales Air Ambulance in Caernarfon and Welshpool. There will also be an option to spend time with road ambulances. Doctors will require their own transport, and must be prepared to travel to these locations to undertake aviation shifts.
Intensive Care Unit - Fellows will be on the resident on-call rota covering an 8 bedded intensive care unit and will be expected to have sufficient experience to do overnight on-call with remote supervision and supervise junior colleagues.
Anaesthesia - Fellows will also spend time on theatre lists which will be tailored to their needs
The post is designed to provide equivalent experience to a Deanery post: all doctors will be entitled to the same teaching and training opportunities as a deanery trainee. Previous successful applicants have negotiated with their deanery for some of the post to count as out of programme training.
