Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Psychologist in the East Child Health Psychology team. We are an established and highly valued team based at the Wrexham Maelor Hospital.
The service works with children aged 0-18 years and their families, who are presenting with a range of physical health conditions; including Diabetes, Cystic Fibrosis, Epilepsy, Chronic Pain and Persistent Physical Symptoms. We work closely with consultant paediatricians, specialist nurses, dietitians and physiotherapists in the hospital.
Under regular supervision from a Clinical Psychologist, you will be involved in psychological assessment and intervention to children, young people and their families with a range of emotional and behavioural issues associated with a health condition. The role involves working with multidisciplinary team members across a number of medical teams and / or physical health conditions. The post may include psychometric testing and supporting group-based interventions. There may be opportunities for early intervention and prevention work, including developing resources for children, families and MDT colleagues. There will be the opportunity to participate in audit, research and service development projects.

Main duties of the job
To assist in the provision of a psychological service to clients within the specialty under the direction of the supervising clinical psychologist.
To be responsible for the planning and prioritisation of own workload and activities following the direction and guidelines given by the supervising clinical psychologist.
To undertake assessments of clients and implement programmes of care or intervention following guidance from the supervising clinical psychologist.
To undertake research activities as required and directed by the supervising clinical psychologist.
To work within guidelines given by the supervising clinical psychologist.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
