Job summary

To manage and provide a library and information service for all Betsi Cadwaladr University Local Health Board employees, General Practitioners and their staff, General Dental Practitioners and students on placement in the Health Board. Ensure a suitable environment and relevant materials are readily available to support evidence-based practice, education, clinical governance and research & development. Provide a comprehensive programme of information skills training to enable Health Board staff to make effective use of the knowledge base of healthcare. Contribute to the strategic planning, service promotion and staff development of the North Wales NHS Library Service and ensure its implementation.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

  • Work collaboratively with service managers at our Central and West IHCs to deliver a comprehensive service to our users.
  • Engage with stakeholders regarding library needs and develop future plans.
  • Contribute to strategic plans and annual reports, including attending local and national events as required.
  • Contribute to marketing and communication strategies within BCU Libraries.
  • Plan and deliver education and training, library inductions, and provide advice and assistance for projects within the Health Board.
  • Collaborate with research and development colleagues to design, deliver and evaluate critical appraisal education programmes.
  • Support information and knowledge sharing regarding AI developments. Facilitate engagement, networking and events to foster collaboration and encourage learning in this area.
  • Maintain professional awareness through contact with health care librarians and other specialist librarians at area and national levels, (by attending meetings and courses, reading professional journals, personal visits and communications), to increase knowledge and expertise and further professional development.

  • Day to day management of the library, including stock control, financial management, managing and maintaining stock, and delivery of the library lending service.
