Job summary
We are seeking to appoint Bank ED Porters to join us in the Emergency Department, Ysbyty Gwynedd.
The Bank ED Porters will required on an 'as and when' basis to provide cover for annual leave and sickness of our team of ED Porters, who provide 24/7 cover for the department, including weekends and bank holidays.
The Bank ED Porters will work as part of a small team contributing to the smooth running of the department. You will provide an efficient and effective response to requests for patient movement, assistance in emergency situations, collection and delivery of samples and medicines etc and also ensure that other tasks such as waste disposal and checking gas cylinders etc are carried out in a timely manner. Whilst many of the tasks are generally routine the daily functioning of the service may be unpredictable therefore a flexible approach is essential and the post holder will be expected to use own initiative.
You will need to have excellent communication skills and a caring disposition as you will be dealing with patients and their families, often in difficult circumstances. You must have previous experience of working in a busy, fast moving and highly demanding environment.
You will need to be able to work as part of a team and be efficient and organised with your own workload.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post.
Main duties of the job
Portering Services provides essential support to all areas of the hospital. The Emergency Department Porter will be expected to react to the various challenges within the working environment, and the workload may be increased due to external influences including the environment, weather, patient capacity etc.
The Emergency Department Porter will work as part of a team contributing to the smooth running of the service, providing an efficient and effective response to requests for patient movement, assistance in emergency situations, collection and delivery of samples and medicines etc, whilst ensuring that other tasks such as delivery of meal trolleys, linen and goods are carried out in a timely manner. Whilst many of the tasks are generally routine the daily functioning of the service may be unpredictable therefore a flexible approach is essential and the post holder will be expected to use own initiative.
