Job summary

North Wales GP Out of Hours Central Division would like to invite applications for part-time Drivers. 22.5 hours per month with shifts covering evenings, weekends, overnights and on Bank HolidaysThe role will involve: 1.To safely transport General Practitioners and Nurse Practitioners to home based patients and assist as necessary with treatment centre consultations 2. When mobile to receive calls from the call centre and pass appropriate accurate information (clinical and non-clinical) to the GP 3. To ensure that the car is roadworthy and contains equipment and drug boxes for use on home visits 4.To support other members of the Out of Hours team and clinicians undertaking various duties including call dispatching and contacting patients to book appointments when not engaged in driving to ensure the smooth running of the service 5. The requirement is for drivers to cover the rota for weekday evenings and nights, weekend daytime, evenings and nights and on Bank Holidays; with an ability to provide cover for the remainder of the weekend days . Shift length varies from 5 to 12 hours.Full training will be provided.

Main duties of the job

The North Wales Out of Hours Service covers the counties of Gwynedd, Anglesey, Flintshire Wrexham, Conwy and Denbighshire. The service is currently provided from several out of hours treatment centres across North Wales. The driver will be based in one of the out of hours treatment centres, but may be asked to work in other areas/treatment centres if the service is struggling to cope. The structure and location of the team is always under review in order to improve service provision to our patients.

The service is operational from 18:30hrs to 08:00hrs Monday to Thursday, from 18:30 on Friday to 08:00 on Monday and all day & night on Public/Bank Holidays.

This role involves working during the out of hours period within a team of GPs, Nurse Practitioners, receptionists, shift supervisors and other drivers.

You will be responsible for ensuring the safe and timely transfer of the GP or Nurse Practitioner to patients homes, receiving information from the treatment centres, ensuring that safety and operational readiness of the car and any other reasonable duties (within your competency) that help the smooth running of the service during your shift.

You report to the Divisional Lead although most of your contact will be with the Operations Manager, the Shift Supervisor, Senior Nurse on duty or the Out of Hours Support Officer.
