Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to be part of a project which aims to support improvements in health promotion and advice provision to adult mental health secondary care service users. This project will establish the effectiveness of this approach, providing the basis to support further investment and funding.
This opportunity would take advantage of the skills of existing Occupational therapy staff within the CMHT as well as introducing additional AHP staff from Dietetics and Physiotherapist along a new band 4 Occupational Therapy Technical Instructor post (OTTI) who would work together to deliver a multi professional service to deliver health promotion interventions .
Short term/medium term aims of the project
- To incorporate a holistic care model supported by Allied health professionals to address the physical health need of this population.
- To promote access to, health improvement resources available to service users.
- Service users with a diagnosed mental illness are supported to make positive health changes using motivational approaches with the aim of :
- Achieving and maintain a healthy weight
- Eat a healthy balanced diet
- Stop smoking
- Be physically active
- Drink alcohol within safe limits.
- Maintain good mental wellbeing
- Access screening and immunisation services in a timely way
- Accessing community resources and services and being supported to engage in these.
Main duties of the job
As an occupational therapy assistant, you will be responsible for providing clinical support to the team of qualified Occupational Therapists in the mental health service.
You will be involved in delivering treatment programmes under the supervision of the Occupational Therapist which will include increasing independence in functional activities and delivery of group interventions. You will also be involved in the assessment and on-going review of individuals.
The team has a strong commitment to CPD and service development and you will be well supported as the role develops.
This post is fixed term / secondment until 31/03/2025 due to the needs of the service.
