Job summary
Contribute to the overall effectiveness of the Sterile Services Department by working efficiently within Good Manufacturing Practices, assembling and packing comprehensive surgical instrument trays, supplementary instruments and procedure packs for use in eye theatres and other clinical departments. To safely operate washer disinfectors, sterilisers and any other decontamination equipment within the department. To control the collection and dispatch of each instrument set, supplementary and procedure pack to the correct operating theatre, ward, clinic and department. To overall comply with departmental quality systems and BCUHB policies.
Main duties of the job
To undertake allocated tasks within the Sterile Services as identified by the Manager/Supervisor in charge and in accordance with SSD Procedures and BCUHB Policies.The post holder must recognise that quality is an integral part of the service and therefore must continue to review and improve the service to meet the need of the local population.Promote good working relationships between SSD colleagues and BCU staff and participate in the promotion of the SSD and the BCUHBOn a daily basis communicate concise information to SSD colleagues and BCU staff giving and receiving handover of care. Assist the manager/production supervisor with the control of visitors to the department. Use available resources in the most cost effective way, ensuring safe and efficient patient care.
