Job summary

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board seeks to appoint a substantive Consultant General ENT Surgeon.

This post has arisen following the retirement of a consultant colleagues so that we may continue to provide excellent care to the population of North Wales and the service provided at Ysbyty Gwynedd. Based in Ysbyty Gwynedd and placed in a coastal city near Menai Straights, Bangor provides the benefits and lifestyle of a scenic country landscape whilst providing excellent road and rail links with the rest of the UK.

Whilst this post is based at Ysbyty Gwynedd Bangor, there will be the possibility of sessions at other hospitals within the Health Board.We will welcome candidates with subspecialty interests and we are keen to discuss your requirements.

Main duties of the job

To carry out duties within the Department of ENT within the Health Board based at Ysbyty Gwynedd and other Hospitals in the Organisation.To be responsible for running the day-to-day activity of the Department and providing advice and consultation on referral from other Departments as required. To participate in a 1:4 on-call rota initially (with middle grade ENT cover) at Ysbyty Gwynedd.To participate in the teaching and adequate supervision of the staff and junior doctors of the Hospital and medical students as required.To participate as required in the clinical audit process operated within the specialty group, improving clinical practice by peer review and changing working practices to maintain a high standard of medical treatment and care.To participate and co-operate with the Lead Consultant/ Clinical Director in the effective management of the specialty group and its resources.

Essential

  • Full GMC Registration
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via: - CCT or CESR (CP) - it is proposed that the CCT date must be within 6 months of the interview date, CESR or European Community Rights(ENT Specialist Registration in another EU country)
  • FRCS (ENT) or qualification of an equivalent level (i.e. an appropriate higher ENT surgical qualification)

Desirable

  • Further higher qualification.

Experience

Essential

  • Satisfactory completion of a recognised ENT training programme.
  • Experience in managing routine elective and acute ENT conditions including some exposure to paediatric emergencies
  • Current knowledge of ENT treatments and interventions

  • Fellowship in ENT Surgery
  • Published research papers, thesis on ENT topics.
