As part of our growth strategy, Betsi Cadwaladr University Local Health Board are currently looking to appoint a full-time (10 Sessions) Specialist in Older Persons Mental Health, based in Pwllheli.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for Older Persons Services, covering GP surgeries in S Gwynedd.
The post will provide CPA reviews and ward round for inpatients for the catchment area, outpatient clinics and medical input to the memory service. Dealing with organic referrals for the catchment area.
The post holder will provide specialist psychiatric assessment, treatment and management for people with cognitive impairment (including Young Onset Dementias) and those over 70 with functional illnesses - transition arrangements are in place for developing an age equal or needs based specialist Older Persons Mental Health Service (OPMHS) from the catchment area) both functional and organic.
Completion of mental health act assessments of inpatients and discussion with S12(2) Doctor and AMHP. A good working knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act and Mental Health Act is essential in current clinical role, due to the patient group frequently lacking capacity to consent to admission and treatment. Also responsible for assessment of suitability of patients lacking capacity to be treated under DoLS.
