We are looking for a Deputy Director of Public Health to capitalize on our assets and tackle the many public health challenges the communities of North Wales face.

This role will lead the Public Health Team and report directly to the Executive Director for Public Health. The role requires flexibility and adaptability to work in a fast-paced environment with many competing priorities.

North Wales is an area of recognised natural beauty with Eryri (Snowdonia), stunning beaches and enchanting castles. The local area offers a variety of lifestyle and family options, and for those keen to maintain ties further afield, the area has excellent transport links including fast direct trains to London. The cities of Chester, Manchester, and Liverpool are within easy reach and offer international travel connections.

Main duties of the job

The Deputy Director of Public Health (DDPH) will have a key leadership role within the BCUHB and the North Wales region. The postholder will act as change agent and will support the improvement of health and wellbeing outcomes, protect the public's health and support the work on tackling inequalities across North Wales through systems and partnership working. They will play a significant role in discharging the governance, assurance and reporting in relation to management of the local integrated Public Health Team.

The post holder will be expected to ensure public health influences delivery at a local level throughout the Health Board region to maximise opportunities for prevention and earlier intervention for the improvement of health and wellbeing across our population.

A high level of intellectual rigour, negotiation and motivation skills and flexibility is required to deal with complex public health issues, to advise and make recommendations regarding the wider determinants of health, services and patient care. A high level of tact and diplomacy is required and an ability to understand other cultures, to enable effective working across organisational boundaries and influencing without authority.

The Deputy Director of Public Health will provide support to and deputise for the Executive Director of Public Health as necessary. They will contribute to the development of the Health Board's vision and objectives, and support the transformation agenda.
