Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic nurse to join our friendly elective orthopaedic nursing team on Samaritan Ward. Samaritan Ward is a 13-bedded Orthopaedic ward who care for elective patients requiring major joint replacements and other complex elective orthopaedic procedures.
The BCUHB Orthopaedic department has led the way in delivering an innovative and excellent service, currently providing same day major joint replacement surgery, implementing the philosophy of Enhanced Recovery after Surgery (ERAS) and providing excellent standards of care.
This position will offer excellent experience and learning opportunities in dealing with Orthopaedic patients and unique opportunities for professional and personal development for registered nurses who are keen to develop their knowledge and clinical skills within the Orthopaedic speciality.
No surgical experience is necessary, as training will be provided, supported by new orthopaedic competencies and the Surgical Practice Development nurse. Your personal qualities should include excellent organisational skills together with a positive approach and the ability to work effectively within the team.
Main duties of the job
Responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of evidenced-based nursing care, working collaboratively and co-operatively with others to meet the needs of patients and their families.
Assist in the management and organisation of their clinical area and participating in the education, development and supervision of other staff members.
Take responsibility for a ward or equivalent sphere of nursing, in the absence of the senior nurse or person who has continuing (24 hour) responsibility.
Responsible for managing a group of staff in the absence of the senior nurse.
